Supplement timing matters for some products, but the correct dose, indication and safety are more important than the clock.
Vitamins A, D, E and K are generally absorbed better with a meal containing some fat. Excessive doses can accumulate, so follow professional guidance.
B vitamins and vitamin C can usually be taken with or without food, although food may reduce stomach upset.
Take it with a meal, often the largest meal, to improve tolerance and reduce reflux.
Directions differ by strain and product. Follow the label and remember that benefits are condition-specific.
Iron, calcium, magnesium and zinc can interact with one another and with medicines. Thyroid medication, antibiotics and blood thinners require particular attention.
Bring a complete supplement list to a pharmacist or clinician, especially during pregnancy, with chronic disease, or when taking medication.
